A new song I’d like to share with you 09/05/2020

Dear Friends,

I am amazed and grateful to be living in a country that has shown such support and solidarity in a time of crisis.

It’s an incredible situation for all of us, no matter where we are in the world, and these last few weeks have given me time to pause and reflect on all the things and people who are important to me in my life.

Some of those reflections are being put into new songs. Some I keep for myself, but they quietly inspire each word I write, each note I play, each thing I do.

Today I would like to share with you a song that was recorded in South Africa before the pandemic made the world hold its breath. We worried about other things then, but there was just as much need for solidarity and support.

The song, “Mokamba”, stands for being strong together. The video was shot in and around Cape Town. When I watch it again today from my home in Zurich, it opens up a small window for me onto a world beyond the Alps. There are days when I catch myself missing traveling, but then I remember the words from Mary Oliver’s poem “It Was Early”:

Sometimes I need
only to stand
wherever I am
to be blessed.

You can listen to “Mokamba” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-zQYvzwIiI

I hope you enjoy it and I can’t wait to play it for you live!

In the meantime, stay positive, stay creative and never give up on yourself.
