In a year like no other, I’ve found myself turning again and again to music for consolation and optimism. Two of my favorite verses comes from John Lennon’s “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” – I’m sure you’ve heard the lines many times before, but I hope you don’t mind if I share them with you again.
Here’s the first:
Before you cross the street
Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
while you’re busy making other plans.
Like most of you, whatever plans I’d had for 2020 were turned on their heads, and we’ve had to learn to be patient, to think and care for our communities and stay positive about the future. For me, this has meant focusing on writing new songs in entirely new ways, digitally exchanging ideas for melodies, harmonies and beats with other musicians from around the world.
The new songs, being produced by Thomas Fessler from 571 Recording Studios in Zurich, will begin to be released on Spotify in the Spring of 2021, along with some surprising covers of my favorite songs by other artists. In the meantime, check out some of my other songs on Spotify and YouTube or follow me on Instagram.
A big thank you to my management and booking agent Nicole Roten for helping me stay positive through a year of canceled concerts – we really can’t wait for new tour dates and events as soon as possible. And thank you to my partner Blas Ulibarri for his encouragement and inspiration.
But the biggest THANK YOU of all goes to you – it’s your interest and support that makes music possible!
Now, here’s that second verse from Lennon’s song that never fails to life me up, and I hope it does the same for you too:
Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way
It’s getting better and better
I wish you all Happy Holidays. May your day be bright and full of health, and may we see each other again soon.
